It turned out that Duo Duo spent the eve of his departure on Tiananmen Square and witnessed another turn of twentieth-century Chinese history, an event that in the future would be known as June Fourth. Upon his arrival in England, he found himself, all of a sudden, the focus of Western media attention, and his identity that of a dissident poet.
